Leisure Tour
Jioufen / Jinguashih
Jioufen belongs to Rueifang Township, Taipei County. According to legend, when the land routes were not opened yet, all the supply of goods and materials was passed relying on sea routes. Because there were only 9 households in this village, so they asked for “Jioufen (9 portions)” whenever needing to purchase outside. Over a long period of time, people use it to call this place. Jioufen was prosperous due to the coming gold-searching throngs, but faded away as the gold-searching business declined. After the movie “City of Sadness” became a sensation in Venice Film Festival, this small town recalled people’s attention and memory again. The old-time prosperous streets, abandoned mining pits, unique mining scenes and gold-searching history have attracted artists who are searching for inspiration, and nostalgic tourists also come here for detailed appreciation.
